Citation FAQ

 

These are the most common citation questions asked in the library. This page should be used as a general reference, only. Most of the AVL databases have citation guidelines for MLA. Some even cover APA and Turabian. However, since citation format is in a state of flux, it is always appropriate to check the citation handbook and check with your instructor. Remember: Your instructor is the final word as to what is appropriate.

What is the MLA citation guideline for items that are reprinted electronically?

 

Use the standard print citation for the item followed by:

Database. Database Provider. Location. Access Date .

 

If the ending page number for an article is not given, it is acceptable to follow the beginning page number with a dash and a space.

How do I cite a previously published scholarly article in a collection (ex: TCLC, CLC, NCLC) with MLA citation?

Publication: Publisher, year of publication. Pages.
