What's Going On?

More news on our conversion.  The reference collection is 75% complete in its conversion from Dewey to LC.  We are also cataloging new books in LC instead of Dewey.  The new books that are LC-cataloged will be housed in the old reference area (south side of the library, surrounding the catalog computers).

So, how do you tell the difference between LC and Dewey?  Both LC and Dewey call numbers for reference books have "R" as the first line.  After that, Dewey call numbers are numeric (numbers.  LC numbers are alpha-numeric (numbers and letters).

Example:     Dewey --> 995.00202          Library of Congress --> DU50

Well, welcome to the Wiki.  I hope to continue to post and update on this page as long as it seems useful.  You can find all the library forms and handouts here, as well as some power point presentations.  I also thought it would be a good place to post a FAQ and responses to suggestions made by cadets.  If you have any suggestions for the wiki, feel free to e-mail me or drop by the library and see me directly.

As for what's going on with Baer Memorial Library...  Recently, Buildings and Grounds (specifically, Eddie Pierce) patched part of the North wall and moved some book shelves for us.  We are continuing our move from Dewey to Library of Congress classification.  Right now, we are just changing the reference books over.  As the books switch from Dewey to LC, they are being relocated from the south side of the building to the north side (by the computers).
